We are proud to highlight Susan Kayne, Founder/CEO of Unbridled Thoroughbred Foundation, a non-profit organization that rescues horses (off-the-track Thoroughbreds in particular), from abuse, neglect and slaughter.
In addition to rehabilitating and caring for approximately 55 horses at a time, Susan also advocates for policy changes to protect horses. For the past 3 years, she has been invited to speak at the University of Oxford in England at their summer school for animal ethics, and in 2021 Unbridled received the People’s Choice Award for Rescue of the Year.
Horses have been a lifelong passion for Susan, and she uses her extensive knowledge to educate the community and encourage people to look at horses from an ethical perspective. Her work has been inspired by Farm Sanctuary and the book The Everyday Philanthropist by Dan Pallotta.
Susan offers a variety of ways for the public to learn from and engage with horses, including the Read to the Rescues program, where students can increase their confidence reading aloud to the horses while also learning about them. The rescue is also available for birthday parties and other special events.
KathodeRay commends Susan for her selfless efforts to give a voice to the voiceless and end animal cruelty.
